While education is commonly understood as a force that can create equal opportunities, the way education systems are designed impacts how they can promote and propagate diverse values and can even reinforce inequalities.
Far-right forces in Europe and beyond are trying to redesign education systems and programmes in order to promote their own illiberal and authoritarian principles.
Be it Orbàn’s government with the collaboration of the church in Hungary, or Serbia, where the regime of president Vucić is trying to crush the student movement’s protests by blackmailing the professors who are supporting the students, or the reallocation of funds and the influence on the definition of school programmes to promote conservative values – as is happening in Italy –, far-right forces are consistently and deliberately taking over education systems.
With this dossier, the Progressive Post wishes to shed light on a little-discussed aspect of the far right’s agenda.
