The world around us is changing rapidly. Many elements of this change are due to the pressure resulting from the polycrisis. Particularly, traditional political forces seem to grow feeble, and the resulting image of their disempowerment translates into distrust and falling electoral numbers. Visibly, among these, Social Democrats are struggling.
This Progressive Post ‘Next Left’ dossier is not another contribution to ponder the decline and point to old conflicts and mistakes. It is written with a very different objective: to showcase the number of historical opportunities, to offer a glimpse of intellectual encouragement and to stop further defeatism. It argues that Social Democracy has mainly spoken of perils and projected the image of a political family focused on preserving and offering a sense of security amid anxieties, rather than as a political force bold and ambitious enough to articulate aspiration and determination to lead.

They offer a path to renewal to help anticipate the world in the years and even in decades to come. It is a path to restore progressives’ credentials as a movement that is a visionary, courageous and determined reformist. It is a path to rebuild it as a powerhouse, driven by the integrity of its values and ready to take on the task of making people’s reality better, fairer, more egalitarian and prosperous for everyone – now and in the future.
