Is it Time to Rethink the Middle East Peace Process? Charting a New European Policy Approach Towards the Israeli-Palestinian Conflic

02/10/2017

At a critical time for the two-state solution, the Foundation for Progressive Studies (FEPS) in partnership with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) organised a closed-door conference in London on Thursday 14 September to explore possible contours for a new European policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The aim was to identify how Europe can make better use of the foreign policy tools that it has at its disposal to safeguard the viability of the two state solution and create the conditions for a meaningful peace process. The discussion also explored the impact of regional and international developments on prospects for resolving the conflict, and the potential drivers for progress within Israeli and Palestinian politics. A discussion was also advanced on the practical implications of a disappearing two state solution for future European policy. The event featured the participation of high-level policy experts from the region, the US and Europe, and will also include official representatives from the EU, European governments, and national parliaments.
