04/06/2019

László Andor took up his post at the Foundation’s office in Brussels on 03 June 2019. He takes over from Ernst Stetter, who served as FEPS Secretary General since the creation in 2008 and will be responsible for FEPS’ successful operational leadership and management according to the strategic direction set by its authorities. He declared: “relying on a wide network of Member foundations, FEPS is very well situated to play a strong role in EU policy debates, at a time when progressive change is needed more than ever.

His nomination is the result of an open selection process that led FEPS Bureau to unanimously appoint him upon the advice of FEPS President Maria Joao Rodrigues. There was a broad consensus on his wealth of highly relevant experience and expertise among all Members of the FEPS Bureau” she said. Additionally, regular and long-lasting involvement in FEPS’ activities provide him with a deep understanding of the foundation’s work and familiarity with its members, developed over many years.”

Prior to his new role, László Andor accumulated a wealth of top-level political, academic, and managerial experience at both national and EU level. He held most notably the post of EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion from 2010 to 2014. Subsequently, since 2015, he has been Head of Department of Economic Policy at the Corvinus University in Budapest (Hungary). As an internationally recognised economist as well as a renowned expert and speaker, László Andor has acquired, maintained and further developed active links with numerous European and international institutions, universities and think tanks.

President Rodrigues furthermore highlighted the complementarity of his profile and her own one which leads her to state: “I believe that with László Andor, the new leading team of FEPS can address the coming challenges in terms of gender, climate, digital, taxation, social in order to offer new progressive narratives to the social-democrat family and leverage in-depth experience with all European institutions”.
