Keeping in mind that the European elections to be held in May 2014, are key to the future of Europe and may become an excellent opportunity of European citizenship in order to express their conformity or this conformity with the policies accomplished to confront the current crisis, the Gabriel Foundation Alomar and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies take on the challenge and enrich the current debate on the challenges Europe faces.

To do this, the Foundation intends conducting a conference entitled Europe XXI century: First Conference for the reconstruction of Europeanism. Besides, the conference seeks to carry out an analysis and assessment of the political and economic situation in the southern European countries through the exchange of views and experiences of recognized experts in the political and economic field. As well as, this event intends to reflect on and discuss how the crisis affects the way in which the southern Europeans face the next European elections. Furthermore, thanks to the conclusions obtained before a strategy a progressive alternative will be designed in order to re-encourage citizens.

In addition to this, the ultimate goal is to create a space of meeting and interaction between progressive perspectives existing in different parts of southern Europe with a shared problematic scenario. Thus, through this incentive links between different neighbouring territories will be reinforced and, even produced knowing first hand the peculiarities of each region, sharing answers to several similar challenges and providing the opportunity to establish a stable network which involve the different foundations.
