European economies will be affected by the digital transformation, which has already started to redefine the way in which business and the labour markets operate. Deepening our knowledge on ongoing and future trends is indispensable to equip EU economies with the buffer and policies needed to ensure a fair and inclusive transformation.

Automation and artificial intelligence will have a big impact on workers and changing our approach to work. It should be an objective of progressive forces to define the guidelines that can help reconcile technological change and social rights. Many policy aspects will need deep revision and modernisation. Digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence whilst representing a crucial chance to boost economic development and competitiveness, also pose challenges to traditional employment models with regard to industrial relations, labour standards, working conditions and social protection.

How to prepare a soft landing for a labour market in transition? How do we enable and empower technology to solve problems for marginalised communities?  How to ensure that artificial intelligence and machine learning are technology solutions that work for the people? What is the nature of the skills required for the 4th industrial revolution?

If you are interested in discussing these matters, see you on Friday 25th in Barcelona.
