Strengthened social cohesion, greater resilience of unemployment insurance in times of national fiscal crisis, and the potential to serve as an automatic stabiliser in the Eurozone. The advantages of a European Unemployment Insurance Scheme appear obvious – but potential merits and political obstacles deserve further discussion. This is the point of departure for our roundtable debate (14:00 to 16:00) on 3rd May 2016 “Towards a European Unemployment Insurance Scheme?” at the European Parliament.

The discussion will be introduced by László Andor, former European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, and Sebastian Dullien, Professor for International Economics at HTW Berlin, and chaired by Jakob von Weizsäcker, MEP.

The meeting will be held in English.
