For years characterised by a state of relative benign neglect, the relationship between the EU and India is also of increasing strategic importance. Recognising this, the Foundation of European Progressive Studies, in cooperation with Carnegie India, are organising an international conference focusing on the issue of ‘Aligning Regional Interests: India and Europe in the Indian Ocean and Middle East’, scheduled to take place in New DelhiSeptember 29th – 30th 2016. The conference will pool the expertise of both organising foundations and will feature the participation of many distinguished high-level speakers both from India and Europe, including members of the Scientific Council of FEPS, former foreign ministers, as well as Ms. Neena Gill, Member of the European Parliament. The Ambassador of the European Union to India, Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, will also address the conference.

The purpose of the conference is to make the case for an India-EU strategic cooperation in regions of common interest, namely the Middle East and the Indian Ocean. It will be followed by another, jointly organised, workshop in Brussels, Belgium, in the Spring of 2017 and will lead to the production of a comprehensive policy paper on the issues discussed.
