This conference is organised with Solidar and Global Progressive Forum

As you know, migrants and refugees are arriving in Europe in numbers not seen since the Second World War. In 2016 alone, more than 170 000 arrived in Greece by sea in hope of reaching Europe. This conference will be an opportunity to assess the current humanitarian situation in Greece and how to manage flows of migrants and refugees while fully respecting human rights and international obligations. Participants will look for ways of fostering solidarity at a European level. A special focus will be placed on the issue of asylum seeking and the management of asylum seekers and asylum requests in Greece and in the EU.

The conference #refugeeswelcome – Solidarity as the solution to the refugee crisis  will take place in Thessaloniki on 7-8 May 2017 and aims at bringing together European political leaders, civil society organizations, European and local institutions and researchers, to identify a common approach and common solutions to the current crisis.
