On Wednesday, 14th November FEPS and PES will hold a joint closed seminar “United for a Progressive Europe”, which will gather representatives from the Central and Eastern European countries. Building on the two organisations initiatives – PES Training Academy and FEPS Ones to Watch Programme – respectively, the event will be an occasion for members of both groups to interact and jointly reflect on two core issues. The first one is the need for assessment of the situation in the region with a particular attention to the position of the PES member parties. Grasping the nature of particular challenges is crucial, especially in the context of existing, frequently unspoken divide between the “old” and “new” EU. The second one is an question how to translate Progressives ideals into a programme, which could resonate across the Community reassuring citizens with concrete political initiatives that the mission of the PES family for the new legislative period 2019 – 2024 remains to strive for improvement of living and working conditions for all. The debate will be opened by Dr. Ernst Stetter, FEPS Secretary General and Marije Laffeber, Deputy Secretary General of the PES, whose remarks will be followed by an input of Dr. Christoph Zöpel, Special Advisor to the PES President on the CEE. The two subsequent panels will be chaired by Konrad Golota, PES Advisor on the CEE parties and Dr. Ania Skrzypek, FEPS Senior Research Fellow – to whom eventual questions regarding the event and its follow-up can be directed.
