GITI Regional Conference on Transparency in the Global Garment Sector

24/09/2015

The Foundation for European Progressive Studies, in cooperation with the Humboldt-Viadrina Governance Platform and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, as part of The Garment Industry Transparency Initiative (GITI), co-organised a Regional Conference on Transparency in the Global Garment Sector. The two-day conference was held in Yangon, Myanmar, on the 8th and 9th September 2015.

The conference’s main objectives were to explore different stakeholders’ perspectives on transparency in the global garment sector and to elaborate further how GITI can become instrumental in enhancing transparency as a basis for joint action.

The conference featured approximately 60 participants, representing governments, garment producers, buying companies and civil society members (including trade union representatives) committed to the improvement of labour rights from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, as well as international experts.
