The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) co-organized a mid-term workshop to discuss progress and next steps on the project: “The EU’s New Resilience Agenda in the MENA Region”.

Participants included authors from the six case studies (two authors were unable to attend), representatives from IAI’s MENA Research team, the FEPS Project Coordinator and a number of invited guests and practitioners from academia, the private sector and the media. A total of about 20 participants took part in the workshop.

The meeting was conceived as an informal gathering with three general aims:

a)     Provide a venue for selected authors to meet and discuss their contributions by presenting the second drafts of their individual case studies;

b)     Allow for a brainstorming session on the concept of ‘resilience’ as outlined in the EU Global Strategy and its applicability and/or implications for the six selected case studies;

c)     Provide an opportunity to consolidate the individual contributions, streamline arguments and reflect on the next steps of the project, with an eye towards the upcoming deadlines for the six case studies and final comparative report as well as the regional dissemination conference, scheduled for November 2017 in Beirut, Lebanon.
