Previously, he taught at Brown University and Boston University. His research focuses on comparative financial systems, industrial policy and comparative macro-finance. He authored over 30 peer-reviews articles, an awarded book (Ruling Ideas, Oxford University Press, 2016) and has a new book under contract (The Great Green Game) with the same academic press that explains how China outcompeted European industrial trailblazers in electric mobility and wind energy technology. Ban is in the editorial board of Review of International Political Economy.
