Mattia Giampaolo is a researcher at CeSPI who specialises in North Africa and the Middle East. His work has examined Libya’s transition and the influence of Libyan political actors internationally, as well as exploring political movements and parties in Egypt and Tunisia. He has also analysed Women, Peace, and Security Agenda’s implementation across the Mediterranean. As part of CeSPI’s Türkiye Observatory, he looks closely at Ankara’s relationship with North African countries, particularly Libya and Egypt. Previously, he was a Pan-European Fellow at the ECFR. His publications include “La Turchia in Nord Africa” in Valeria Giannotta’s “La Turchia nel Mediterraneo. Tra storia e attualità” (Donzelli ebook, 2022) and “The Two Souls of the Egyptian Revolution and Its Decline: A Socio-Political Perspective” (2021). He earned his PhD from La Sapienza University, focusing on the Oslo Accords between Israel and Palestine. He is fluent in Arabic and has spent significant time living in Egypt.
