MK Dr. Nachman Shai is a member of the Israeli Labour party, chair of the Subcommittee for Foreign Policy and Public Relations and chair of Israel-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group. Until he was first elected to the Knesset in 2009, he has held diverse positions in the military, the media, the diplomatic and the public arenas, including: Director General of the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport; IDF Spokesperson; Communications Advisor to the Minister of Defence; Director General of the Second Television and Radio Authority and Chairman of the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA).
