The annexation of the Crimea by Russia is an unprecedented event, with highly uncertain consequences. In this paper, André Gerrits asks if this is the beginning of a new area in global politics. The paper addresses the interaction between cooperation and confrontation in EU-Russia relations and examines the challenging landscape as it evolves before us.
