Achim Post is a member of the German Bundestag and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. He was born in Rahden/North Rhine-Westphalia in 1959, is married and has two daughters. He studied at the University of Bielefeld with a focus on Public Administration and graduated as a certified sociologist.

He joined the SPD in 1976, was an active Young Socialist and worked as an adviser of SPD parliamentarians in the Foreign and Defense Committee in the German Bundestag. Later on, he worked as Chief Executive Officer of the SPD Parliamentary Group in the European Parliament, and was International Secretary of the SPD between 1999 and 2013.

Achim is an experienced campaigner. He worked in leading positions in the federal election campaigns of the SPD and was head of the European election campaigns for Martin Schulz in 2014.

Achim Post was elected Secretary General by the PES Congress in 2012 and re-elected in 2015 and 2018.
