The role of the Recovery and Resilience Facility in strengthening childcare policies

The Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) represents a unique opportunity for member states to invest in the offer of early childhood education and care services, which are right now lacking in most European countries.

In this study, authors analyse the role of the RRF in strengthening childcare policies to reduce internal disparities and increase service provision. Read more

POLICY STUDY
Atypical work and the social protection of migrants in Europe

This Policy Study analyses the effect that atypical contracts have on social protection rights and on the rights of migrants connected to their ‘foreigner’ status, such as access to host country nationality, family reunification, and right of residence.

For a migrant, can a non-standard job ultimately be a good stepping stone to a more stable professional integration or, on the contrary, does it entail the risk of being trapped in a second-class relationship? This is one of the questions addressed in this new publication. Read more

This is the result of a wide research carried out by FEPS, Fondazione Socialismo and Comunità di Sant’Egidio, focusing on the integration of migrants.

Migration is a structural fact in our societies, but it is too often considered and addressed as an emergency. In this way, immigrants are often treated as eternal new arrivals.

The proposals contained in this book intend to offer some initial guidelines regarding the migration phenomenon and the ways to promote the social inclusion of migrants in European communities. Read more

7 – 9 July, Reggio Emilia (Italy)

This year’s School of young local politicians focused on an important priority of European progressives: promoting equal access to high-quality early childhood education and care for all children in the EU.

This three-day training brought together young progressive politicians at the local and regional levels who wished to be inspired and trained on the ways in which the most forward-looking child policies can be realized in their constituencies, share best practices, and engage with leading progressive politicians.

It was organised by the PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions, together with FEPS, the Young European Socialists (YES), and the Party of European Socialists (PES). It was hosted by Reggio Children, a worldwide renowned centre for the defence and promotion of the rights and potential of boys and girls.

Initiated in 2012 by the CEE Network for Gender Issues, the “Korčula School” has become a recognised regional South Eastern European think tank that focuses on progressive and social democratic policies to promote gender equality.

It is designed to be a unique political, ideological, free-thinking space for a substantive and forward-looking exchange of views on critical ideological and political issues on transforming politics to promote gender equality. More info on the 2022 edition coming soon!

FEPS Talks: Universities in war and peace

Julia von Blumenthal, President of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and FEPS Secretary General László Andor discuss the effects of the Russia—Ukraine war on universities, especially in the case of the institution she leads which plays a special role in German – Eastern European relations.

They highlight the humanitarian as well as the educational aspects of Viadrina’s response to the shock of Russian aggression, and explore the possibilities of opening a new chapter in the academic relations between Germany and Ukraine. They find it hard to be optimistic regarding the end of the war in Ukraine or the normalisation of cultural relations with the Russian-speaking world.
