Join the launch event of the book 📕The Circular Economy and Green Jobs in the EU and Beyond.

The book offers clarification on the meaning and the implications of the circular economy across different contexts. It goes beyond simply arguing in favour of a circular economy and critically assesses the political and distributional choices that are made during this transition.

Edited by Janis Brizga and SaĂŻd El Khadraoui and with a foreword by Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission.
PAST EVENT
Vienna, 14 March

FEPS and partners gathered experts and policymakers for a special conference in Vienna (at the Renner Insitute headquarters), which looked at how the current crisis will redefine the field of EU-Russia relations for the years to come.

Ĺ tefan FĂĽle, Former European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Hannes Swoboda, President of the International Institute for Peace and Former S&D President, were part of the speakers’ panel.

PAST EVENT
17 March

This event took place in the context of the 66th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change is this year’s theme.

In an effort to overcome the gender-blind approach, the aim of this event was to explore progressive answers paving the way towards a truly feminist climate justice approach.

Organised by FEPS, Fondation Jean Jaurès, PES Women and UN Women Germany.
PAST EVENT
Tallinn,18 March

This event responds to the need to urgently develop and communicate a vision of just environmental and climate politics by bringing together researchers, progressive policymakers and foundations from the Nordic and Baltic regions and the European level.

“This event is a proof of a double commitment of FEPS: to the Baltic region, where we would like to see more joint activities, and to the topic of climate change, a critical challenge of our time and a long-standing commitment of our foundation”, said FEPS Secretary General LászlĂł Andor during the event.

The EU must be empowered to live up to the social, climate, and environmental challenges of our times. For this to happen, Europe cannot just return to the pre-covid EU economic governance framework.

We are pleased to announce that FEPS has signed the Manifesto for a green, just and democratic European economy promoted by the group of civil society organisations, think tanks, and trade unions FiscalMatters. We unite our voice with those of 273 organisations and academics from all 27 EU countries calling for fundamental reform of the EU’s fiscal rules.

The tragic images of the Russian airstrikes against the Ukrainian cities and the Ukrainian people fleeing their country under the pressure of the invasion shattered the European Unions’ decades-long illusion of uninterrupted peace. The European people seem to have finally awoken to the EU’s rightful geopolitical role and responsibilities.

They have welcomed with solidarity the already over
2.5 million Ukrainian refugees seeking shelter within the EU borders (without counting the internally displaced people). Is this a turning point for the EU’s asylum regime?

Europe is undergoing its largest conflict since World War II. Ukrainian cities are shelled, hundreds of people have lost their lives and millions are fleeing their country.

The European Union is called to provide quick and robust answers to the Russian aggression and Ukraine’s need for support, and to readjust itself to an international order that has changed overnight.

How has COVID changed the labour market?

Stephen Bevan, Head of HR Research Development at the Institute for Employment Studies and László Andor, FEPS Secretary General, discuss the impact of COVID-19 in the working conditions, based on the results of the new study about the UK, and compare the main conclusions with the situation in the countries and regions of the EU.

They highlight how the pandemic created the concept of “key workers” and gave rise to new practices like homeworking. The impact on social inequalities and flexible forms of employment and issues related to health at work were also discussed.
