Over the last decade, rents in Europe have increased by an average of 25%, and housing prices have increased by up to 50%. Can the EU do something to make housing more affordable?

The declaration of Portimão calls for a European Plan for affordable housing. We consider that housing should feature among the top political priorities for the 2024 European Elections, as it is a basic human need and a fundamental right that must be safeguarded for everybody.

EU policies, legislation and funds must contribute towards decent, safe and affordable housing for all that meets the climate goals and allows for sustainable and inclusive communities.
