Big tech in Ireland and the EU

This expert meeting is taking place in the context of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union for an in-depth, invite-only dialogue among policymakers, experts and activists.

The discussion will focus on AI and tech governance in Ireland and the EU, addressing enforcement, labour, and regulatory challenges. We look at how progressive political forces can respond to the rapid growth of the AI industry and how social democrats across Europe can adopt a common approach to AI, shaping it in a way that benefits society equally rather than further concentrate power in the hands of the tech oligarchy.

The evening concludes with a discussion on dismantling patriarchy in Big Tech and promoting gender inclusion, with interventions from prominent feminist voices. The agenda blends policy, technology, and gender equality, aiming to foster progressive solutions in AI and societal structures.

We will bring together a wide range of progressive actors. These include representatives from progressive forces in Ireland, across the European Union, European institutions, civil society organisations and academia.
