Breaking down the silos

Climate mainstreaming and holistic policy design in the face of multiple transitions

28/11/2022
15:45 - 19:00
FEPS HQ, Brussels (Closed-door)

Climate change is a systemic issue that cannot be addressed by siloed thinking and policymaking. Instead, the transition to a political, social and economic model that addresses the planetary emergencies and implements the commitments of the European Climate Law needs to be grounded in a holistic understanding that is aware of interdependencies between different policy fields. Transforming societies and economies in a consistent way with the principles of sustainability thus means mainstreaming environmental concerns when designing policies for other areas. At the same time, environmental policies, as well as the effects of climate change, affect other areas such as gender and health. This workshop foregrounds and disentangles these interlinkages by bringing research and experts from different disciplinary and policy backgrounds together. The identification of key concepts and issues from different policy areas is complemented by the formulation of policy principles that are grounded in the principles of climate justice. Reflecting on how policies can integrate the concepts of climate justice, climate and gender mainstreaming, health in all policies and an inclusive and transformative digitalisation will allow progressive policymakers and stakeholders to adopt holistic, comprehensive and fair climate and environmental policies that can remedy rather than exacerbate existing inequalities.

The meeting will take place on 28 November (Monday), from 15:45 to 19:00, at FEPS headquarters located on Avenue des Arts 46, 5th floor, 1000 Brussels.

If you are interested in attending the event, please contact Thainá Leite, FEPS Project Officer, at thaina.leite@feps-europe.eu.
