Political Café: A new future for Ethiopia?

In the past year, many political changes have taken place in Ethiopia. Since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stepped in, he has taken steps towards more democracy, but he also contacted neighbouring Eritrea. The two countries are already making substantive progress in pursuing peace.

Continuing their important joint work on and in Africa, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and the Foundation Max Van der Stoel, are organising in collaboration with the Dutch Institute for Multi-Party Democracy (NIMD), a Political Café on 27th November in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, where we will discuss what these developments mean for Ethiopia, but also what the consequences for the relationship with Eritrea.

The first panel, including Assefa Fiseha, Nesru Hassen Koroso and Kibret Mekonnen, will discuss the situation in Ethiopia. The second panel, including Mikal Tseggai and Sennay Ghebreab, will analyse the changing relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Furthermore, Jan Abbink will provide an introduction on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa, and Alberta Opoku will moderate the discussions.
