From America to Europe, national-populist movements and parties are on the march. In the United States, a nationalist demagogue has captured one of the major parties – and the White House. In Europe, nationalist movements are elbowing aside once dominant mass political parties and upending the liberal order. Meanwhile, many centre-left parties are saddled with stale themes and ideas, old leaders and the legacy of coalitions of interests, focusing on propping up the status quo rather than embracing a paradigmatic shift in politics.

This must change. We believe it is time for a new conversation and next-generation thinking among progressive parties and activists across the transatlantic world and beyond. Therefore, the objective of the Progressive Governance Symposium 2019(#PGS19) is to rejuvenate the progressive movement, its governing philosophy and agenda based on the cross-border dialogue among centre-left parties.

Please join our transatlantic debate to develop strategies and ideas for the coming progressive renaissance and new politics of optimism and aspiration.
