COP30, under the leadership of Brazil, was a key event in 2025. In a context of increased threats to ambitious climate policies coming from European rightwing parties and the many implications of the Trump presidency, the European progressive movement must unequivocally stand with political and civil society actors championing just climate action, aligned with the Paris Agreement and guided by the “Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities” principle, and it must foster multilateralism in international climate negotiations and enhanced dialogue between the EU and the Global South

FEPS is joining forces with the Brazilian think tank Plataforma CIPÓ to exchange ideas, discuss key topics for COP30 and foster EU-Brazil dialogue.

The Just Transition Work Programme was a central point of negotiations in November in Belém, with many challenges to overcome. The breakfast seminar organised by FEPS in partnership with Plataforma CIPÓ brought together both EU and Brazilian policymakers, experts and civil society to discuss the priorities for Just Transition at COP30 and the idea of establishing a Just Transition Match-Making Platform

On the occasion of this seminar, we launched our new policy brief, “Governing the global just transition from fossil fuels to clean energy“.

Written by Céline Charveriat and Pierre Leturcq, the policy brief offers concrete policy proposals that the EU and the COP30 Presidency should champion to break the deadlock in negotiations, rebuild trust among parties, and accelerate the delivery of just climate action for all.
