Policy analyst on Digital

Monty Aal (he/him) joined FEPS in March 2025 as Policy Analyst on Digital. Before joining FEPS, he worked for two years at FTI Consulting, supporting technology and media companies with their European public affairs with a strong focus on EU digital policy. Prior to that, Monty was a Blue Book trainee at the European Commission’s DG CNECT and Vice-Chair of the Landelijke Studentenvakbond (LSVb), the Dutch Student Union, where he was responsible for the relationships with the political institutions and relevant ministries. 

During his studies, Monty was active as a volunteer, freelancer, and activist for several social causes. He was a Youth Advocate for three years at the Dutch NGO Choice for Youth and Sexuality, specialising in sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. He also worked as a project coordinator at Young Urban Achievers (YUA), supporting young cultural entrepreneurs in Palestine and Liberia with launching their own cultural enterprises and at the Mainline Foundation, where he developed a blueprint for an educational programme on drug use centred around the principle of harm-reduction. Throughout his professional engagements, Monty has always been a strong advocate for diversity, inclusion and belonging (DIB) and policies to improve mental health and wellbeing at the workplace. 

Monty holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a specialisation in governance from the Central European University in Vienna and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics (PPLE) with a major in law from the University of Amsterdam. For his graduate capstone project, Monty conducted research at UNESCO, focusing on how actors across the public and private sectors develop and use ethical impact assessment (EIA) tools for AI systems and the operationalisation of AI ethics. 

Monty is fluent in English, Hungarian and Dutch and proficient in German.
