A new narrative for a just transition?

Against the backdrop of the cost-of-living crisis and farmers’ protests, the European Green Deal is increasingly facing a backlash and the social costs of the green transition are being exploited by conservative and far-right forces to slow down, if not halt, the green transition. The negative narrative surrounding a just transition needs to be strongly countered with positive messages that outline the benefits of climate action for the well-being and living conditions of people in Europe and beyond. 

Addressing this open question, FEPS and SOLIDAR commissioned a Policy Study to examine and outline the framework for a positive Just Transition narrative, emphasising some of the socio-economic benefits of the Just Transition in people’s lives. The event started with the presentation of the document, followed by a reply by an external expert and concluded with a discussion about the real-life implications of this re-framing. The final goal was to present the results of the research and to create a network for an ongoing debate along this positive framing of the Just Transition.
