Funding for Conflict Prevention

Photo album of the ‘Funding for conflict prevention‘ event in FEPS HQ.

As the EU is shifting its approach towards military spending and with funding for international cooperation increasingly being questioned, how can the EU and its member states continue to prioritise conflict prevention and peacebuilding in fragile states? FEPS and GPPi are hosting a discussion on the EU’s role as a global peace actor, focusing on funding mechanisms for conflict prevention in the current MFF discussions, identifying key gaps and opportunities.

We will explore how traditional donors, including the EU, are shifting focus towards domestic priorities and increasing military spending. Over the years, GPPi has tracked how the EU has heavily depleted flexible and long-term funding aimed at addressing the drivers of crisis and conflict. Furthermore, we will assess how the EU can maintain its relevance in an increasingly multipolar world, where new mediators and international players are emerging in the conflict resolution field.
