This year, FEPS is organising Call to Europe, its flagship biannual event, in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 29-30 May 2026. The conference will focus on the theme: “A progressive strategy for peace and cooperation in the Mediterranean.” The sessions on 29 May are closed-door and by invitation only. The sessions on 30 May are open to the public in the UNESCO conference room at the University of Nicosia.

The aim of Call to Europe is to stimulate a more positive, participatory, and progressive Europe by bringing together a wide range of progressive actors. These include representatives from European institutions, civil society organisations, the academic community, and progressive political parties from Cyprus, across the European Union, and the wider Mediterranean region.

During the event, participants will discuss key issues shaping the Mediterranean region and the European Union’s approach to the region. Topics will range from energy partnerships and the green transition, with a focus on ensuring that cooperation is mutually beneficial and supports local development, to the creation of people-centred migration policies that put an end to the Mediterranean being a graveyard for migrants and instead promote safe and legal pathways.

The conference will also examine the geopolitical shifts affecting the region. Discussions will address the urgent need for a just peace process that leads to a fair and sustainable solution between Palestine and Israel, as well as the responsibility of the European Union to actively condemn Israel’s illegal violations of international law and uphold the protection of Palestinian rights. Participants will also reflect on the broader regional implications of the United States and Israel’s illegal war against Iran and Lebanon, and the wider destabilising impacts on the Mediterranean region, as well as the democratisation struggles in North Africa.

This edition, taking place in the context of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be organised in cooperation with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D Group) in the European Parliament, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (Cyprus), Eteron – Institute for Research and Social Change (Greece), Fundación Avanza (Spain), Centro Studi di Politica Internazionale (CeSPI, Italy), Fondation Jean Jaurès (France), and the Movement for Social Democracy (EDEK) Socialist Party (Cyprus).
