Serving as the concluding component of a research project between FEPS, Istituto Affari Internazionali and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), we will be organising an international conference in Rome on February 12th, focusing on the topic of “Governance and Security in the Sahel: Tackling Mobility, Demography and Climate Change”. The project has firstly analysed the factors underpinning good governance in the Sahel, and has secondly considered how the quality of governance is influenced by and can affect the management of demographic changes, climate change and mobility.

The first session of the conference will provide an overview of governance in the Sahel. The second session will be devoted to the analysis and research findings in Burkina Faso and Niger. The final session will focus on the role of the EU and other international actors in the region. The conference will also serve as a platform to gather recommendations for the African, EU and US institutions in these fields.
