After the Progressive Migration Group (PMG) successfully presented their findings in Brussels in September 2024, a PMG delegation visited Addis Ababa and presented the PMG’s policy recommendations to African stakeholders. The visit was organised by the FES Africa Migration Policy Center in Addis Ababa.

The visit was a great opportunity to engage African stakeholders on the PMG recommendations, receive their feedback and comments, and explore practical avenues for implementing the proposed measures. By hosting the event in Addis Ababa, a hub for regional policy and diplomacy in Africa, the delegation aimed to emphasise African perspectives on migration and promote equitable, collaborative partnerships with European stakeholders.

Key objectives of the visit were:

  • To present policy recommendations to key stakeholders working on migration policy in Africa (AU divisions, REC delegations, EU Delegation to AU, European and African embassies/delegations to the African Union, think tanks, UN Agencies etc).
  • To identify areas for practical implementation of the recommendations, focusing on both immediate and long-term measures to strengthen EU-Africa migration cooperation.
  • To facilitate networking and knowledge exchange between European and African migration experts, fostering an environment for continued collaboration beyond the visit.
  • To promote the work vis-a-vis state and non-state migration actors working on migration management on the African continent.

More information on the PMG’s recommendations can be found here
