Since the year 2000, SOLIDAR organises annually its Silver Rose Awards in the European Parliament in cooperation with FEPS and the S&D Group, an occasion to celebrate Civil Society Organisations and individuals whose extraordinary struggles contribute greatly to social justice and solidarity throughout the world.

The 2023 Silver Rose Awards call for nominations celebrated those who work actively towards a just transition towards carbon-neutrality.

We seeked nominations of individuals or organisations that remind us that with collective action, courage, perseverance, and commitment – we can do not what is politically reasonable but what is necessary to put people and the planet first.

The Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 went to Margot Wallström, former Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister, EU Commissioner, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict and current chairperson of the Olof Palme International Center. Margot Wallström is a brave, steadfast, principled, and visionary politician and activist, standing up for her values of feminism, human rights, and inclusive policies that guarantee women’s rights and representation. Read more.

The Silver Rose Award for a Just Transition went to Justiça Ambiental (JÁ!), volunteer-based non-governmental organisation founded in 2004, in Mozambique. It has been working with local communities in Mozambique and other African regions for over 20 years, advocating and organising for a just transition away from fossil fuels, ensuring that people’s voices are heard and their rights are respected, demanding that small farmers have access to land and that oil and gas companies exploring the country face legal consequences, preventing further violations and harm. Read more
