The expert roundtable will bring together researchers, civil society actors, and progressive policymakers to examine the cross-border dynamics of the contemporary far right in Europe and identify strategic responses.

Across Europe, far-right actors increasingly operate through interconnected transnational networks linking political parties, think tanks, media outlets, digital platforms, and offline convening spaces. Ideas, narratives, and strategies circulate rapidly across borders, shaping national debates on migration, gender equality, and Europe’s role in the world. Understanding how these networks function is essential to defending democratic values and sustaining progressive politics.

Building on the Defending democratic values and advancing progressive policy in the EU Institutions roundtable held in December 2025, this second meeting focuses on mapping key transnational actors, coordination spaces, and digital ecosystems that underpin far-right mobilisation. Through expert inputs and structured discussion, participants will identify vulnerabilities in far-right organising and explore opportunities for progressive counter-strategies.

Participants will exchange across three interconnected strands: an overview of the current state of the European far right; an in-depth examination of transnational actors and offline meeting spaces; and an analysis of far-right online ecosystems and influencer networks, including their impact on youth and the development of the manosphere as a transnational vector of the anti-gender movement.

Held under Chatham House rules, the discussion will feed into a follow-up workshop aimed at developing a shared progressive toolkit to better understand, expose, and challenge the far right’s transnational power.

This expert roundtable is organised by FEPS in cooperation with Fundação Res Publica, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and Eteron.
