Women peace and security around the world ahead of the EU Action Plan 2028-2034

In a moment where armed conflicts are on the rise, and peace agreements are replaced by fragile ceasefires agreed by a few powerful men. What is the role of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in a security agenda? Some governments are either pushing against gender inclusion, while others are not renewing their WPS commitments worldwide.

Yet, despite this grim international trend, we continue to see local and regional advancements of women’s and feminist organisations around the world. The Feminist Foreign Policy Progressive Voices Collective will hear from WPS academics and practitioners from across the globe to discuss the state of WPS and share good practices. Their recommendations will help us think about how donors, such as the EU, can support and accelerate these advancements. 

The new WPS of the EU offers an opportunity to re-engage with European policymakers and to push the EU to lead in the women, peace and security agenda.

Since its launch in October 2023, the FFPPVC has served as a platform for progressive-minded academics, policymakers and civil society representatives to exchange perspectives and influence policy developments on feminist foreign policy. These closed-door thematic meetings enable members to share expertise, refine strategies, and deepen the feminist lens on global affairs.
