Africa Day has been the leading event bringing Africa to the Netherlands for more than 30 years. With around 1,000 visitors, speakers, and volunteers, it is the largest public event in the Netherlands on Africa and international cooperation. The day consists of workshops, lectures, discussions, films, and music. With this event, we aim to provide a platform for African voices and bring together citizens, politicians, and NGOs to discuss a new partnership between Africa and Europe based on equality. Africa Day is organised every year by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) in collaboration with the Max van der Stoel Foundation (FMS).

This year, on 21 November 2026, the event focused on the theme “The Future is Here”.

FEPS is hosting two fringe sessions, focusing on:

  • Session 1 – The Present and Future of the EU-Africa Just Transition

Speakers:

  • Philip Kilonzo, Head of Policy, Advocacy and Communication, PACJA
  • Tiziano Marino, CESPI researcher
  • Marit Maij, S&D MEP
  • Dorcas Norupiri, FES Youth Leader

Moderation: TBC

  • Session 2 – Beyond Aid: EU-Africa Cooperation Alliance

  • Marie-Noelle Nwokolo, African Center for Economic Transformation
  • Asad Beg, EEAS Pan- African affairs advisor (tbc)
  • Charles Kimani, Program Officer, African Renaissance Trust
