On Thursday, 5th June 2025, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), in partnership with the Friederich Ebert Stiftung Warsaw office, hosted a discussion on the jointly published policy study “Social Democracy with(out) the people: possible strategies for survival and expansion of the polish left” reflecting the findings of their in-depth, three-year research project.

During this presentation, the authors of the last policy study, Dr. Maria Skóra and Dr. Gavin Rae, outlined the primary outcomes of their research, grounded in original research, including two exclusive public opinion polls conducted by IBRIS in 2023 and 2024. The policy study maps areas of potential support, such as an active welfare state, secular governance, and workers’ rights. It offers a critical diagnosis of past failures and a practical roadmap for future renewal.

This discussion occurred in the aftermath of the Polish Presidential elections, with the active participation of academics from the Next Left High Level Conversation, Left representatives and youth representatives in Poland.

For further information on the project, please contact Dr Ania Skrzypek (ania.skrzypek@feps-europe.eu), FEPS Director for Research and Training, or Ms Céline Guedes (celine.guedes@feps-europe.eu), FEPS Partnership and Project Coordinator.
