FEPS – Foundation for European Progressive Studies, together with the Renner Institut, Democracia y Desarrollo Fundación, Salvador Allende Fundación and IGLP Harvard Law School is holding on 19th – 21st November 2014in Santiago de Chile a high level international symposium “Next Left: A progressive Answer to the Global Social Question”.

The event, hosted in Salón Sesiones del Senado, will feature an impressive list of speakers from Latin and North America, Europe and Africa. It will be honoured by presence of President Michele Bachelet – whose closing speech will pave the way for the further transatlantic debates on the renewal of progressive family globally.

The activity itself builds up on the earlier conversation, which within the framework of the FEPS Next Left Research Programme “Dialogue of Dialogues” has been featuring numerous debates in Europe and in the US.

The symposium in Santiago de Chile takes place upon a personal invitation of Dr. Ricardo Lagos, former President of Chile – who together with Dr. Alfred Gusenbauer, Chair of the FEPS Next Left has been framing the academic exchanges taking place in the US.

Having taken place at Brown University, at Harvard Law School, at Oxford University and at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona since 2010, the seminars have gathered outstanding scholars, experts and politicians – who jointly elaborated a handful of bold proposals for the future of the progressive agenda in the EU and worldwide.

They, as also the reflections that had led to their formulations, can be found in numerous publications – from which we would like to specifically bring into your attention two volumes of the FEPS Next Left Books: respectively vol. 5 “Building New Communities” and vol. 8 “Framing a New Progressive Narrative”.

The FEPS delegation composed of over 20 renowned scholars will be led by Mr. Massimo D’Alema, FEPS President and Dr. Ernst Stetter, FEPS Secretary General.
