This is a closed-door event.

EU-Russia relations have been seriously strained in the past few years, characterised by mutual mistrust and tension and marked by several core unresolved issues, including the crisis in Ukraine, the MH-17 case, disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks and the sentencing and treatment of opposition politician Alexei Navalny.

As part our joint project on EU-Russia relations, FEPS, in cooperation with the Foundation Max van der Stoel, Fondation Jean Jaurés, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europe (FES ROCPE), Amicus Europæ, Fondazione Gramsci and the Renner Institut, organized a closed workshop that was aimed at better understanding the space of engagement that exists between the two sides. The project’s objective is to assist in substantiating a new EU agenda towards Russia.

The workshop included the presentation of and discussion on a series of policy briefs focusing on a number of key areas of priority for the European Union, including:

  • EU-Russia energy & climate relations: Why cooperation could become important
  • Managing Military Risks in EU-Russia Relations: Challenges and Perspectives
  • Civil society: Building resilience dividends amongst the youth in an era of social transformation
  • The UN-led discussions on cyberspace in the context of international security

It also provided the framework for an in-depth discussion on the political and attitudinal fragmentation within the EU vis-à-vis Russia.

The event featured the participation of relevant policy-makers and experts.
