From America to Europe, national-populist movements and parties are on the march. Inthe United States, a nationalist demagogue has captured one of the major parties – andthe White House. In Europe, nationalist movements are elbowing aside once dominantmass political parties and upending the liberal order. Meanwhile, many centre-left partiesare saddled with stale themes and ideas, old leaders and the legacy of coalitions ofinterests, focusing on propping up the status quo rather than embracing a paradigmaticshift in politics.
This must change. We believe it is time for a new conversation and next-generationthinking among progressive parties and activists across the transatlantic world andbeyond. Therefore, the objective of theProgressive Governance Symposium2019(#PGS19) is to rejuvenate the progressive movement, its governing philosophy andagenda based on the cross-border dialogue among centre-left parties.
Please join our transatlantic debate to develop strategies and ideas for the comingprogressive renaissance and new politics of optimism and aspiration.
