The global political climate is constantly moving – and FEPS has been responding and reacting to key issues, from the G20 and the US elections to Europe’s domestic issues.

 

We’ve been in Amsterdam, getting rights right in Africa; in Berlin, diving into Europe’s economic challenges; and in Brussels, reflecting on multilateralism and EU enlargement. Next stops: Athens to tackle housing, Stockholm to explore algorithmic management, and Brussels to discuss gender equality, climate, and youth and EU elections.

 

Definitely not a quiet end of the year!

These topics were central to this FoWB meeting, held in Brussels at a pivotal political moment, with the start of the new European political cycle. The meeting provided a platform for dialogue among European and national decision-makers, academics, activists, and analysts.

Progressive Economics Network 2024

As the new European Commission is taking charge, the Progressive Economics Network (PEN) – by FEPS, FES and DPZ – reconvened to discuss current challenges and help guide the development of policy responses strengthening economic resilience, industrial policy and competitiveness and public investments in the green transition.

This year’s theme of Getting Rights Right shifts the conversation on Africa to being talked with, not talked about, focusing on finding local solutions and listening to domestic voices on fighting for a just Africa.
 

The fringe events focused on: 

  • Seizing multilateral reform momentum for African countries

  • Boosting the social impact of EU development cooperation in Africa through the Inequality Marker

  • Addressing complexities and potential for workers’ rights in global supply chains

  • Social justice from an African trade union perspective
  • Implementing Feminist Foreign Policy in fragile and conflict-affected setting

Realising the ambition of the Summit of the Future

Post-Summit of the Future debriefing
 

Following the Summit of the Future in New York and ahead of key summits in 2025, including the 2nd World Social Summit, FEPS and UN Brussels held an event analysing the outcomes and implementation of the Pact For The Future.
 

The EU remains instrumental in implementing the Pact for the Future and fulfilling the 2030 Agenda’s vision of revitalising global partnerships for sustainable development.
