The Beef with TTIP

How European agriculture stands to lose in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership

Policy Brief

15/07/2016

Food and agriculture are fundamental to our existence. Effective governance of food and agriculture—particularly as climate change begins to disrupt production cycles worldwide—requires a dynamic, forward thinking and multi-sectoral approach which takes into account food security, environment, public health, economic and social justice, and the judicious use of our natural resources. Trade negotiations between the United States and the European Union in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) stand to affect governance of the food system significantly, given their unprecedented focus on harmonising standards and the parties’ publicly stated intention to extend these standards globally.
