Affordable housing and (in)equality in the European Union‘ took place on 16 May from 16.00 to 18.00. The focus was on housing inequalities and the role of EU policymaking to help member states deliver more affordable housing, support social housing and energy efficiency of buildings.

This was a fringe event as part of the interdisciplinary conference on European Advanced Studies (IDEAS), which took place at the ULB Solbosch campus (Salle Spaak; 39 avenue Franklin Roosevelt) in Brussels from May 15 to 17, 2024.

16:10 – 18:00  Policy panel: Shaping EU action for affordable and sustainable housing

  • Michaela Kauer, Head of Brussels Office, City of Vienna and former coordinator of the EU Urban Partnership on Affordable Housing
  • Sorcha Edwards, Secretary General, Housing Europe 
  • Ana Carla Pereira, Expert in the Cabinet of EU Commissioner Nicolas Schmit for Jobs and Social Rights, focusing on housing policies.
