Climate and just transition

In these times of recurring heatwaves, we understand better than ever that fighting climate change requires actions across a very diverse range of issues and at different geographical levels. We need to quickly reduce emissions, especially from industry, change our energy systems, adapt to intensifying impacts and support vulnerable groups.
 

The good news? As our publications show, climate action provides a great opportunity to improve everyone’s lives and make economies more resilient, in Europe and beyond.

This short and straightforward position paper argues for a new narrative, a different kind of leadership and a concrete delivery agenda.
 

Recurrent, interconnected crises are testing our institutions, our solidarity and our confidence in the future. This moment in time calls for a renewed progressive leadership that weaves climate action, economic security, and social protection into a single, forward-looking project.

How National and Regional Partnership Plans can support just transition regions in the next MFF
 

Ensuring support for those most impacted by the transition to a climate neutral economy is essential. However, the European Commission’s proposed 2028-2034 MFF does not renew the Just Transition Fund, which threatens the EU’s economic development and cohesion.

This new publication provides targeted and actionable policy recommendations to ensure that transition regions retain adequate and predictable support through the National and Regional Partnership Plans framework.

Building on the policy brief “Governing the global just transition from fossil fuels to clean energy”, the new briefing dives deeper into the specific case of the EU-Africa climate relations. The EU and Africa relations need to evolve from their current asymmetries to achieve a genuine partnership that champions climate action.
 

Seeking to generate discussions, the briefing proposes the concept of “mutually reinforcing just transition corridors” between the two continents.

This public seminar will discuss the findings of FEPS upcoming policy study “European clean technology value chains: competitiveness and resilience of heat pumps”.
 

The study analyses key data to understand where the EU production of heat pump components stands in terms of competitiveness and innovation. The event will also explore ways to link the findings with current EU industrial policies, like the Industrial Accelerator Act.  More info.
