Governing migration and reframing Europe-Africa relations

The Foundation for European Progressive Studies, together with the Foundation Max van der Stoel and the Fondation Jean Jaurès, and in cooperation withe Fundación Pablo Iglesias is organising the public event Governing migration and reframing Europe-Africa relations on the occasion of the publication of two papers: the second paper of the FEPS Global Migration Group, Time to govern migration together. An opportunity for Europe and Africa, and Migration – African perspectives, published in cooperation with the Foundation Max van der Stoel. The event will take place on Tuesday 18th February 2020 (15:00-18:30) in Brussels (FEPS Office, rue Montoyer 40).

The conference will be divided in two sessions, Taking off the lenses of insecurity to reframe transcontinental relations and migration management, and Migration – African Perspectives, and will feature speakers such as Giuliano Amato, former Prime Minister of Italy, member of the Italian Constitutional Court, and Chair of the FEPS Global Migration Group; Bert Koenders, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (tbc); Caroline Wanjiku Kihato, University of Johannesburg; Laura Corrado, Head of Unit, Legal Pathways and Integration, DG Migraiton and Home Affairs, European Commission (tbc); Gerald Knaus, President of the European Stability Initiative; Kati Piri, Member of the European Parliament (tbc); Kiza Magendane, The Broker online; Maria João Rodrigues, FEPS President, and László Andor, FEPS Secretary General.

The event will be an opportunity to look at the causes and management of migration between Africa and Europe also from the point of view of the countries of origin.

The two papers will be released on the 18th February and will be available for download from the FEPS website.
