In the framework of the Young European Socialists Summer Camp (Warsaw, Poland, 1-4 July 2026), FEPS organised a series of interactive panel discussions and training workshops exploring some of the most pressing challenges facing Europe and the neighbourhood today.

Together with its partners – FES Warsaw, Amicus Europae, Renner Institut, and Foundation Max van der Stoel – the programme focused on the future of the European Union and the culture of fear, strategies to counter the far right, advancing women’s political leadership, and the main gender issues in the Eastern Partnership.

These sessions provided progressive young activists from across Europe with valuable insights, practical skills and opportunities to engage.

Panel 1: Europe at Crossroads: Navigating Uncertainty in a Changing World by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS),Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation Warsaw (FES Warsaw) and Amicus Europae (AE).

Speakers: Zuzanna Piwowar, Co-President of Młoda Lewica, Marcin Duma, CEO at IBRIS Institute for Social and Market Research and László Andor, FEPS Secretary General. Moderated by Ania Skrzypek, FEPS Director for Research and Training and YES Veteran.

Democracy under pressure: Progressive responses to the rise of the far right hosted by the Foundation of European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation Warsaw (FES Warsaw), Amicus Europae (AE), Foundation Max van der Stoel (FMS) and the Renner Institut (RI).

1. How cities change: from local problems to real change2. Defending our values – debating and argumentation techniques 3. Power, Pixels & Politics: How AI and Big Tech Shape Democracy4. Roll up your sleeves and come fight the far right
Trainer: Oliwia Kapturkiewicz  This workshop shows how people can shape what happens in their cities, starting from everyday local problems. We will explore how local democracy works in practice – not only through official institutions, but also through citizen action, campaigns, and public pressure. The session is based on real experience from urban activism in Warsaw and examples from the work of Miasto Jest Nasze. Participants will learn how to identify community needs, turn them into clear demands, and think about ways to make their voices heard.Trainers: Magdalena Schrott and Bram Joanknecht As far-right movements rely on emotional manipulation, disinformation and polarizing rhetoric, defending democratic values requires strategic communication. This interactive Workshop equips you with practical argumentation and debate techniques to articulate your principles clearly and persuasively. You will learn how to deconstruct harmful arguments and reclaim the values narrative.Trainers: Melina Colson Artificial intelligence, social media platforms, and major technology companies increasingly shape how people communicate, access information, and participate in democratic societies. This workshop explores how AI, algorithms, and Big Tech influence public opinion, democratic participation, and political discourse.Trainer: Joao Pinto Join us for a very practical workshop on how to identify and confront the extreme right messages. We will discuss and work on the progressive narrative and responses to the Rise of the Far Right through an interactive methodology and present the outcomes and conclusions.
