The European Green Deal Tracker

Assessing the implementation of the Green Deal in member states

An event by FEPS and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Just Climate

How well is your member state implementing key policies of the European Green Deal (EGD)?

Find out in the new policy study “The European Green Deal tracker“, a two-year-long project that assesses how the EDG is being implemented across member states. It measures progress in implementing the EGD at the national level through an indicator-based index and case studies.

The policy study uses National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) to provide an overview of member states’ progress across 16 key dimensions, including emission reduction, renewable energy, energy efficiency and social justice.

Despite strong performances by many countries, no country can be called a “leader”. Worryingly, some countries show limited progress towards and commitment to implementing the EGD.

20 MARCH – ATHENS, GREECE

Shaping the political future

Progressive strategies in an age of far-right normalisation

An event by FEPS, in cooperation with FES, ETERON and Fundação Res Publica

The far right is no longer confined to national political arenas. Political parties, think tanks, media outlets, influencers and affiliated organisations increasingly operate within dense transnational ecosystems where narratives, tactics and resources circulate rapidly across borders.

Shaping the political future
Countering the far-right in the European Parliament

Launched in Athens, the policy brief “Countering the far-right in the European Parliament” examines the growing normalisation of the far right in the 2024- 2029 European Parliament (EP).

The first part examines scenarios which explains the current composition of the far right in the European Parliament and maps its influence through three threat scenarios. It also proposes recommendations for progressive actors to work within this hypothetical scenarios.

EU-Africa consultative meeting

An event by FEPS, in cooperation with FES, Africa Think-tank Dialogue, Fondation Jean-Jaurès, Foundation Max van der Stoel, Inclusive Society Institute and Olof Palme International Center

With uncertainty surrounding the future of the G20’s Think 20 (T20) track under the current US administration, this forum created an alternative space for African and European think tanks to engage on global governance reform. Participants explored how an ambitious EU-Africa partnership can help shape a more inclusive multilateral order.

This meeting was part of the FEPS’ EU‑Africa Progressive Network‘s 2026 programme.

Climate-proofing the future

We are already living in an age of extreme weather and climate-driven catastrophes. This reality calls for policies that make our cities, infrastructure, workplaces and homes climate-proof, and our societies increasingly resilient. Climate adaptation cannot be treated as a secondary pillar of environmental policy.

by La Repubblica 06/05/2026
"In the EU, competitiveness is nothing without social rights" In this article published in La Repubblica, former European Commissioners Nicolas Schmit (FEPS President), László Andor (FEPS SecGen) and Anna Diamantopoúlou (part of FEPS' Bureau) remind European leaders that deregulation will only make Europe poorer and that only social sovereignty will make it stronger

A competitividade não é nada sem direitos sociais

by Publico 06/05/2026
"Competitiveness is nothing without social rights." Writing for Público, former European Commissioners Nicolas Schmit (FEPS President), László Andor (FEPS SecGen), and Anna Diamantopoúlou (FEPS Bureau) argue that competitiveness is hollow without social rights. They caution European leaders that a path of deregulation will only lead to widespread poverty, asserting instead that "social sovereignty" is the true key to a stronger Europe.

Andor László: Átváltozó Európa

by Portfolio 06/05/2026
"László Andor: Europe in Transformation" In this article published in Portfolio, former European Commissioners Nicolas Schmit (FEPS President), László Andor (FEPS SecGen) and Anna Diamantopoúlou (part of FEPS' Bureau) remind European leaders that deregulation will only make Europe poorer. They argue that as the continent faces a "stalled" German economy and shifting global dynamics, only social sovereignty and a renewed social contract can truly make the Union stronger.

Nincs versenyképesség szociális jogok nélkül

by Népszava 06/05/2026
"There is no competitiveness without social rights" In an article published in Népszava, former European Commissioners Nicolas Schmit (FEPS President), László Andor (FEPS Secretary General), and Anna Diamantopoúlou (FEPS Bureau member) issue a firm reminder to European leaders, deregulation will only serve to make Europe poorer. They argue that the continent's true strength lies not in market dilution, but in social sovereignty.
