Progressive platform for international development

Created by FEPS, in collaboration with SOLIDAR, FES, and Fondation Jean-Jaurès, the Progressive platform for international development‘s second session brought together high-level development experts and progressive policymakers from the European Union and the Global South. Other contributors to this project are CeSPI, Avanza and the Olof Palme International Centre.

Our shared objective is to move beyond the traditional concept of “partnership” and build a genuine strategic alliance with the Global South, using the Global Gateway as the main testing ground for new models of cooperation. The platform aims to contribute to the EU negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

The platform brings prominent voices from the Global South, including Adriana Abdenur, Co-President of the Global Fund for a New Economy; Philani Mthembu, Executive Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue; and Jayati Ghosh, leading economist and Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, former Prime Minister of Niger and CEO of NEPAD, among others. This platform is chaired by Udo Bulmann, S&D Member of the European Parliament and coordinator of the Development Committee.

This project is also a continuation of the publication of the policy brief “Europe’s strategic role in global development“, written by Mario Pezzini and Stefano Manservisi, and the advancements made around the UN Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), held in Sevilla.

As part of the platform’s work, we will publish two policy briefs to feed into the debate on the future of EU international development cooperation.
