In a context of new industrial policies being developed by the European Commission (Clean Industrial Deal, Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act, Simplification Omnibus, etc.), an apparent shift in focus from the European Green Deal to competitiveness, and growing international geo-economic tensions, it is essential for progressive forces to engage and structure debates on industrial policy. Expert discussions are needed to define how competitiveness-focused industrial policies can be shaped in a way that supports a just transition, including accelerated decarbonisation, workers’ rights and enhanced quality of life and environment.

The expert workshop will gather a knowledge community of experts, civil society representatives and policy-makers working on EU industrial policy to unpack the actions proposed in the Clean Industrial Deal (CID) and discuss how to ensure an efficient and just industrial decarbonisation process. The workshop will allow to better understand the potential benefits and risks associated with some of the key actions proposed in the CID and map policy and research priorities for 2025 and beyond.
