If you have problems displaying this email, follow this link

Our flagship Policy Conference wraps up after two days of insightful debates and we’re already looking ahead to our next event: Call to Europe, our bi-annual conference, which this time takes place in Ireland, following the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

We will move from sustainable EU sovereignty to the question of how to build a digital Europe that doesn’t sacrifice gender equality. We will also tackle housing, the values of democracy, young people in far-right movements and employee ownership. A busy month ahead, check it out!

Policy Conference 2026

30 SEPT – 1 OCT – BRUSSELS, BELGIUM

Policy Conference 2026
Towards a sustainable European sovereignty

At the Policy Conference 2026, Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera and Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Honorary President of the Club of Rome, reminded us of what sustainable European sovereignty really is. It is not merely a geopolitical direction: citizens’ concerns need to guide our strategic thinking.

A sustainable European sovereignty means lower energy bills, no one having to choose between food and heating, no child sitting in a classroom in 40-degree heat, affordable housing, better mobility and the freedom to stay, among other social rights.

The second day on the Conference focused on key issues, including:

🔋 How can Europe accelerate electrification while protecting its households and workers?
💰 Innovative public investment instruments for sustainability and innovation scale-up
🤖 A pro-worker AI agenda

📺 Watch all the debates or read the highlights of the different panels: High-level – electrification – public investment – pro-worker AI agenda.

Bridging competitiveness and shared prosperity through employee ownership

Fringe event at the European EO Days

Employee ownership is gaining momentum across Europe, but it remains fragmented, advancing country by country with little cross-border exchange of knowledge, models and policy tools. As a wave of business owners approach retirement and legislative frameworks for employee and steward ownership move up the EU agenda, this fringe event will look at where employee ownership stands today and what stands in its way. POLICY BRIEF

Four priorities for a worker-centred Quality Jobs Act

What the Nordic experience teaches Europe about regulating AI in the workplace

Summarising the key findings of the FEPS-Nordic Digital Programme, the brief recommends that the Quality Jobs Act should:

1.  extend protective rights beyond platform work

2.  enshrine employee participation and co-determination before the introduction of algorithmic management and AI systems

3. define effective human oversight

4. ensure that the productivity gains generated by technology benefit not only companies but also employees

Policy brief produced in the framework of the FEPS-Nordic Digital Programme, a collaborative research and policy initiative led by FEPS in cooperation with Nordic think tanks and trade unions.
