A free Hungary in a stronger Europe

Ahead of the informal EU Summit that will take place in a few days in Budapest, the city became the stage for a vibrant gathering of democratic, socialist, and green policymakers, academics, trade unions and activists working towards a brighter future. More than 250 participants participated in the latest edition of Call to Europe: ‘A free Hungary in a stronger Europe’.

Media freedom, rule of law, true democracy,  just transition, quality jobs,  accessible public services, housing, and health were some of the key topics of the conference.

The event saw the participation of the leaders of the progressive Hungarian parties and European policymakers, including: members of the European Parliament Gaby Bischoff (S&D VP), Klara Dobrev, Birgit Sippel, and Daniel Attard; MSZP President Imre Komjáthi; Zita Gurmai, MSZP VP and  PES Women President; Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony; members of the Hungarian Parliament Gergely Arató, Zoltán Vajda Ágnes Vadai, and many others.

Do the consequences of algorithmic management for workers require EU policy action?

FEPS, with EESC Workers’ Group of the European Economic and Social Committee, held this high-level conference on the impact of algorithmic management at the workplace with guest speakers Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, Brando Benifei MEP, Isabelle Schömann, Deputy General Secretary of ETUC and more!

Right after the approval of the Platform Work Directive, the conference came at a timely moment when the EU institutions are setting the agenda for the next five years to a full room of pivotal policy-makers, trade unionists, and experts.

The conference extrapolated findings from two pan-Nordic case studies from the “Digital programme: Algorithms in the workplace“, which use the unique labour environments of the Nordic countries where long-standing traditions of labour organisation intersect with rapidly advancing technologies to their implications for EU policy-making.

Beyond the border

The implications of Brexit for the island of Ireland

In collaboration with TASC, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) London and Brussels Labour

Now is a critical moment for Northern Ireland, with a functioning devolved government, the Labour Party in the UK Government for the first time in 14 years, and the new EU mandate! It is pivotal that the Windsor Framework is implemented successfully and defines how we can restore political and socio-economic prosperity after Brexit.

Following debates in London, Dublin and Belfast, FEPS, TASC and FES London launched launched two policy studies resulting from the years-long project “Beyond the border: The implications of Brexit for the Island of Ireland” focused on the future of Northern Ireland:

• “The Windsor Framework and its implications” by Patrick Diamond and Barry Colfer
• “The social and economic impact of Brexit across Northern Ireland” by Sara Singleton

State of the Unions

The US election: Implications for the US, for the EU and global politics

Implementing the New Pact

The New Pact on Migration and Asylum was intended to finally put an end to the disagreements that have been ongoing between member states for years. However, the October EUCO dramatically revealed that this goal has still not been achieved.
